Etheopian Airline's new Dreamliner suffered a major problem this morning halfway out in the Atlantic. Flight ET500 was 2 hours into its flight from Dublin to Washington when one of its engines suddenly shut down.
The pilot immediately declared an emergency and the plane returned safely to Dublin airport at 8.30am.
There were 300 people of board. The passengers do not know when they will be able to continue on their journey and are likely to suffer a significant flight delay.
Etheopian Air has 13 new Dreamliners in its fleet. The Dreamliner is one of the world's most advanced aircraft and no doubt Boeing will be rushing to find out why this major incident occurred. The Dreamliner has been beset with problems and delays but has been popular with airlines due to its fuel efficiency, levels of comfort and low engine noise.
