Passengers booked on the United Airlines flight from Glasgow to New York on Saturday night will be thanking their lucky stars that pilots about to take charge of the aircraft were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol before they had a chance to board the plane.
Passenger boarding had already begun, but was halted as the news came through. The flight that was due to leave at 09:00 on Saturday eventually took off at 19:15 the same day. Delayed passengers arriving late at their destination may now be able to claim for flight delay compensation.
The pilots will be attending Paisley Sheriffs court on Monday in connection with the incident.
A spokesman for United Airlines said that the pilots had been suspended from flying duties pending the outcome of an investigation.
