Ryanair must meet its obligations to passengers | FairPlane UK image

The civil aviation has given budget airline Ryanair until 5pm today to meet its obligations to those passengers affected by two rounds of recent flight cancellations.

Court action has been threatened by the CAA if the airline fails to comply.

The law is quite clear in regards to what an airline must offer a passenger whose flight has been cancelled. These would include:

  • The option to be rerouted using another airline if necessary
  • The choice of an alternative flight
  • Reimbursement of expenses
  • Provide advice to passengers who are appearing to act on potentially misleading information

Andrew Hanies, chief executive at the CAA has stated that he is “furious” with Ryanair, following its second round of cancellations in just over a week.

The threat of court action has been made in specific response to the airlines failure to inform passengers affected by the cancellations that they have the right to be rerouted using a different airline.

The 1000’s of recent cancellations has left many Ryanair passengers stranded and out of pocket because of money spent on other goods and services associated with their trips. In the majority of cases, standard travel insurance will not cover these loses.
