Thomas Cook pilots plan further walkouts | FairPlane UK image

For the second time this month Thomas Cook pilots staged a walkout on Saturday and further action is planned in the future.

The strike comes as a result of a failure to settle disputes over pay.

More than 40 flights were affected include those arriving and departing from the following airports:

Manchester
Birmingham
Bristol
Belfast
Glasgow
Newcastle
London Gatwick
London Stansted

Although some departure times were changed, all flights scheduled for the Saturday 23rd September went ahead.

A statement on the company’s websites said:

“We have tried to keep disruption to a minimum and apologise if these changes affect your plans or cause you any inconvenience on that day.”

Ongoing negotiations

Negotiations at the conciliation service ACAS between the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) and the airline are ongoing.

BALPA general secretary Brian Strutton has described the discussions to date as “tortuous” and suggested that despite compromises having being made on both sides, there is still a considerable gap between the two parties in regards to any agreement.

Further strike action has been announced by BALPA, with two 24-hour strikes planned for Friday September 29 and October 6 should an agreement not be reached before then.
