Travel insurance will not cover Ryanair 'knock-on' losses | FairPlane UK image

An investigation by the BBC has found that none of the standard travel insurance policies sold by the major firms will cover Ryanair passengers for so called ‘knock-on losses’.

These are loses that will be incurred on expenditures such car hire and hotel bookings as a result of the Ryanair flight cancellations.

More than 2000 cancellations are planned by the Irish budget airline during the next 6 weeks leaving many passengers at sea regarding their travel plans and almost certainly out of pocket, if not directly, then certainly indirectly.

Ryanair will offer alternative flights or refunds to all passengers affected, but those travellers who have made additional non-refundable commitments in regards to accommodation etc. will lose that money unless otherwise covered.

The Advice from a leading travel organisation regarding insurance is to make sure that your policy covers claims for cancellations ‘beyond reasonable control’.

Just when you thought that things couldn’t get any worse…

We have recently heard a report of a passenger whose Ryanair flight to Montpellier in France was one of the many cancelled. After being given the bad news by Ryanair, she took them up on their offer of a replacement flight and decided to choose a flight to Slovakia instead. A short while later she received another call from Ryanair stating that her alternative flight had now also been cancelled as well. If that wasn’t bad enough, the passenger had booked accommodation at both destinations.
